The Groats Festival
22 – 26 November 2004
Groats will make you healthy!
On 22-26 November along with the Green School Association we organized the Groats Festival. Over 600 children from 20 schools and nurseries took part in the workshops about the origins of corns and their products.
During the Groats Festival the young participants could have a close look at the corns (i.e. wheat or rye), compare them and learn about characteristic features. The kids also made flour by themselves. Of course a lot of attention was given to the groats. During all the workshops children were taught how to recognize different kinds of groats and what they are called.
The classes were divided into 30 minutes long parts. Most of them involved artistic activities and required creative participation of the kids. They played roles in a theatrical play which told a story of life saving groats.
We created The Groats Orchestra which proved that making music with groats is very easy. The ways of making groats instruments were presented. Kids liked most of all making their own sea waves compositions of different corns. The little artists were very happy with their works, we hope they decorate their proud shelves now.
Afterwards everyone deserved to have something to eat and taste the different kinds of groats. Despite of the initial reluctance in the end most of the participants decided to have seconds. Each child received the Groats Expert diploma as a proof for the skills and knowledge gained during the Groats Festival.
